Magic: The Gathering Gameplay (EDH) – Rafiq vs Gisela
EDH is often attributed with being the most outright wacky and dumb of all Magic formats. Dave and Vince shuffle up to show us what they can do with their other 99.
For those of you that don’t understand, perhaps I should summarise the rules. EDH (or Commander) is a 100 card singleton format. That means that aside from basic lands, you can only play one of any particular card, as opposed to the usual four-of rule. You choose a legendary creature to lead your deck into battle, all cards within have to be a part of the ‘Commander’ or ‘Generals’ colour identity. Higher life totals, a unique ‘Paris-Mulligan’ and a focus on multiplayer bouts all round out the specialised rule set and character of EDH. Oh, and the majority of cards from across Magic’s expansive history are legal in the format.
In short, EDH is the casual format of kings. But who will be king today?
I am playing my hyper aggressive Bant Rafiq, Of the Many deck, pitting it up against Dave’s freshly constructed Gisela, Blade of Goldnight deck. My plan is to equip the most busted and overpowered equipments in all of Magic to creatures and swing for the face. Dave’s plan is to play damage doublers and cards that make me say “ouch” out loud, and then swing for my face. Rather linear strategies, we will be the first to admit. But fun strategies none the less. Enjoy.
