This week’s releases 24/3/2014

By Ben ‘@BaywardBound’ Hayward

So I thought that I would write a quick piece on what’s coming up this week and provide some kind of vague personal insight. If you’re American you’re just going to have to deal with the date at the top of the article.

Battlefield 4:Naval Strike

Battlefield 4: Naval Strike – 25/3/2014

The promise of the return of Titan mode and the release of a few more maps has rekindled my interest in DICE’s multiplayer shooter. Although it’s now called Carrier mode, because EA presumably wants to distance itself from the nerds, it will hopefully be an enjoyable experience. It also helps that the game is stable enough to play for an extended session. Unfortunately with the release comes a collection of new weapons which throws the game’s balancing even further out of wack. When using some guns I can relate to how the Aztecs must have felt when facing the Spanish conquistadors.

Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls 25/3/2014

The expansion to Diablo 3, there’s no more real money auction house. The game has been revamped, sexed up and given some more polish. The community is hoping that this will improve on the base game’s mechanics. Hopefully with storylines that are a little less predictable this time guys. Expect a review of it coming soon.

Crusader Kings 2: Rajas of India – 25/3/2014

Continuing with the DLC theme is the latest release from Paradox Interactive. This promises to not only double the size of the map, so that India and more of Africa can be seen. More importantly – the multiplayer will actually work.  There are also some minor bug fixes which try to reign in some of the sillier parts of the title. There are also patches as well which allow characters to have up to 5 lovers. Guaranteed there will be a reddit or forum thread about who can sire the most illegitimate bastards.

Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea (part 2) 25/3/14

While I’m sure this will be an enjoyable experience I’m not sure how I feel about the break up of the studio that created it. To some this could be more of a post-mortem of Irrational games. Hopefully it will be longer than the first part, but given the pedigree of Bioshock: Infinite I’m not holding out hope.

Age of Wonders 3 – 31/3/2014

This one just about sneaks in to this week as I’ll be writing the follow up next Monday, the day it comes out. If you’re a fan of the classic series I imagine you’ll know what to expect, I can’t see the developers rocking the game mechanic boat too much. I’ve watch some gameplay footage and there seems be a significant emphasis on flanking. Not to mention that units are no longer a single soldier, they are now regiments – a bit like what the Civilisation games did. Either way expect a review of it some time next week.

Fight the Dragon 27/3/14

No idea what this is, but it sounds awesome. Having watched some gameplay footage it looks a little like classic runescape, but don’t take my word on it.
