Great post! As a completionist I completely get wanting to power through, but I also fault the price of a lot of games these days. If its a new game, I can't justify spending around £40-80 on a game to drop it after not vibing with it for a few hours. I will try to push through until it's unbearable. Its a bit easier with indie or older games when I haven't spent much for it. Now days (and with my backlog of 'to be played' games) I find it helpful to only purchase games on launch date if it's a franchise I know and love, even if I'm really excited for the game. Sure it might mean I miss out on the initial hype, but if I can save myself some money and disappointment, I'm all the better for it lol

This is a really good thing to remember, especially as I'm a major completionist! It used to be books, I don't know why there's such a huge feeling of shame when there's a DNF on the shelf but it's going to take me a while to train myself out of that 🫤

Thank you for reminding me of this! I am absolutely a completionist and find it hard to mentally offload something if it isn't done (to a degree - I don't necessarily 100% a game) Which just leaves a long backlog of games/shows I want to play/watch but can't because of the time constraints.

It's all self-imposed of course. And I have ditched some games simply because I wasn't enjoying them or because I had had my fill of them.

Great post!

This was a really insightful post! Personally, I've never really been a completionist, but I always felt bad whenever I wasn't enjoying a game. I never regretted dropping a game (or a show) if I wasn't vibing with it, but I always questioned ''why'' I wasn't vibing with it. Sometimes it's the story, sometimes the presentation and sometimes the gameplay.

But as you said, life is too short to keep doing something you don't like - especially something you would consider a hobby.

Nice, that's a good attitude to have!
